2017 CFID Awards Presentation

The 2017 CFID Awards ceremony took place on May 4, 2017 during the AMMI Canada /CACMID Annual Conference in Toronto, ON. Winners included:

  • Dr. Juan A. Embil Trainee Award for Infectious Disease Research – Dr. Matthew Cheng, McGill University
  • Dr. John M. Embil Mentorship Award – Dr. Kurt Williams, University of Saskatchewan
  • AMMI Canada Medical Student Research Awards:
    • Lucy Smith, Memorial University
    • Clara van Ommen, University of British Columbia
  • CFID Summer Studentship Award – Thenuga Sasitharan, University of British Columbia

 

Dr. Kurt Williams receiving the CFID John M. Embil Mentorship Award from Dr. Coleman Rotstein (L), Chair of the CFID Awards Committee.
The Juan A. Embil Trainee Research Award was presented by Dr. Coleman Rotstein (L) to Dr. Matthew Cheng and accepted on his behalf by Dr. Caroline Quach.
The Safe Drinking Water Pilot Project Award was presented by Dr. Susan Richardson, President of CFID (L), to Dr. Roberto Melano, Study Co-investigator, on behalf of Dr. Anna Majury from Queen’s University and Ontario Public Health Laboratory.
Lucy Smith (C) from Memorial University, accompanied by her research supervisor, Dr. Peter Daley (L), was presented with the AMMI Canada Medical Student Research Award by Dr. Susan Richardson (R).
Thenuga Sasitharan from the University of British Columbia was presented with the CFID Summer Student Research Award by Dr. Susan Richardson (L). Receiving the award on Thenuga’s behalf was Dr. Agatha Jassem, her research supervisor.
