THE FOUNDATIONOnce believed to be almost eliminated as a public health risk, infectious diseases remain a leading cause of death worldwide. Despite incredible advances in medicine, our good health is still at risk. The Canadian Foundation for Infectious Diseases (CFID) was established in 1989 to fund critical research and help protect Canadians and people worldwide from infectious diseases. CFID is the charity arm of the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease of Canada (AMMI Canada) -- our country’s largest association of microbiologists and infectious disease specialists, as well as other allied professional organizations such as the Community and Hospital Infection Control Association of Canada (CHICA-Canada) and others. CFID pledges to use every dollar raised responsibly and productively to support research, education and professional development of Canada’s infectious disease experts. Working in partnership with AMMI Canada, CHICA-Canada and our supporters, the Foundation will hasten the discovery of innovative solutions to better understand, prevent, control and treat the many existing and emerging infectious diseases.
